Description
Woven from 80gm silk chanderi in ivory — muslin-lined for opacity without weight — the kurta carries a figurative embroidery composition that is without precedent in this collection. At its centre: the Kalpa Vriksha, the wish-fulfilling tree of Indian textile tradition, rendered in deep crimson thread with flanking elephants at its roots and dense foliage ascending toward the yoke. It is a motif that has appeared on temple walls, royal textiles, and handwoven saris for centuries — and here it is worked with the same devotion in thread on gossamer chanderi.
Silver zari traces select outlines throughout, with pita ribbon-work and dabka coiling accenting the yoke and placket. A folkloric pom-pom trim at the wide sleeve cuffs adds the kind of handcraft detail that reveals the maker's hand.
Chanderi pants with organza detailing and red thread embroidery continue the motif below, while a four-sided embroidered dupatta — its ivory ground bordered in running red thread — completes a set that is as rooted in tradition as it is wearable in the present.
